The Mississippi Delta National Heritage Area defines “museum” as any collection of objects or space that holds significance. Whether this significance be cultural, historical, artistic, scientific, or personal, our definition of museums is open to traditional and non-traditional museums. Traditional museums may be institutionalized spaces with a specific aim to educate visitors on a particular topic while non-traditional museums may be anything from personal collections to natural wonders. The Delta is full of both traditional and non-traditional museums. We value all Delta museums for their ability to connect individuals to the Delta’s rich living breathing archive.
